When Was The Last Time You Had A Facial?

November 6, 2019

In the world of Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, fast fashion, and fast everything, have long, lingering facials lost their magic touch?

Facials help to clarify, exfoliate and hydrate the skin. The touch that comes with an experienced esthetician is valuable, sought after and underestimated as well. The mental stress that can be wiped away with one facial is a big plus. Some spas are more concerned with profits than your skin (definitely steer clear of those Groupon deals). I think the general public senses that and resents it. That's why you're really beginning to see so many solo-preneur spas and studios now. These are the lone aestheticians who really want to make a difference in people's skin, and garner a loyal following by doing so.

The facial should be an integral part of everyone's regime, starting at any age when imbalances of the skin (acne, pigmentation, etc.) start to arise. Your skin is your body's largest organ - it should be maintained on a regular basis, not neglected for the occasional splurge. A facial's function should be viewed similarly to how a healthy diet and exercise are for our body - consistency is the key to any and all results.

Many spas are adjusting to this results-driven mindset. The days of just steaming and creaming the skin and over-promising on results are over. Spas today don't see a decline of skin treatments and facials, but changes in the spa/salon experience as a whole. It's less about pampering, and more about results-driven, time-condensed treatments that fit into your busy schedule.

The bottom line also plays a huge role in the changing spa landscape. Traditional facials can cost over a hundred dollars - an investment many people are not always able or willing to make. That's why venues now offer half-hour facials, 35-minute "Fast Results" facials, lifts, peels, and eye-smoothing treatments for $45.

This fast paced, rushed lifestyle doesn't help our health and mental state. Choose a facial that includes a relaxing neck and shoulder massage. Your mind and body will appreciate the extra 10 minutes of pampering.

what people are saying

“I love this place. I have seen Joanne for both massage and facial's and she is incredible. I was an LMT for 16 years so it can be challenging for me to find someone I like for bodywork. She's excellent. The feel of the space is so comforting and light. The products used are all organic and smell wonderful. Highly recommend.”

“How to get away from it all? Have a massage or facial or both from Julie! I had both and my experience was total relaxation. She intuitively knew where to work out the stress in my body. No words needed to be spoken. Amazing! At the last minute, I decided to get my brows waxed. PERFECT and no pain! Might have been a ride from Templeton but well worth going to this little heaven on Earth.”

- Colleen F.

“We're so lucky to have a high-end spa in our neighborhood and not have to pay the high-end prices. I've been going here for years. They use products I've seen at resort spas. They've educated me on the right products to take care of my face. They know what they're talking about!”
